Welcome to my blog and a new term

I always say to the children you never stop learning and to try and learn something new everyday. It has taken me more than a day to learn how to set up my blog but hopefully I will get better as the term progresses.

What a great start to the Summer Term. The weather is fabulous and the children have been able to play on the field and have lessons outside. The staff are also all in good spirit, well rested from the Easter holiday and looking forward to the term ahead.

There is alot happening this term, please look at the term diary planner. A copy of this and newsletters are also available on the website.

For me the violin concert has been the most memorable day of the week and was very enjoyable to watch. The Kentisbeare School Association (KSA) provided refreshments and the staff are very grateful to them for all their support. This opportunity for all the Key Stage 2 children to learn an instrument was made available through the Government's Wider Opportunity funding. Sue Rivett (violin tutor) planned the project and what a tremendous success it has been. We will post pictures on our website when they are available.

Swimming has started well for our Foundation Class children and year 4. Thank you again to all those parents who have accompanied our youngest children.

Some parents have asked me whether we will be boycotting the SATs which are due to start on Monday 10th May. Whilst I do not agree that the SATs are the best measure of a child's overall progress we will be administering them as usual. I feel that it would be unfair on the children who have been preparing themselves. I believe that if schools can ensure that they have rigorous assessments in place and can show that they can track children's progress effectively and accurately, the external SATs will be irrelevant and hopefully dropped.

More news next week.
